My client is a global leader in the development and manufacture of high-quality pharmaceutical testing equipment and associated services. Their equipment is used worldwide in the development and production processes of major customers the life sciences, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

There longstanding market and process know-how enables them to meet and exceed their customers bespoke requirements

This is an exciting onsite service engineer role where you will be a dedicated engineering resource within the R&D & QC departments on a large pharmaceutical site!

Overnight stays and field based travel will also be minimal in this role so you will have the best of both worlds in terms of challenge, job satisfaction and work life balance!

The requirements of the Onsite Service Engineer – Analytical Chemistry Equipment role:

  • You will have 1+ years experience as either a Field Service Engineer or Onsite Engineer  with experience servicing analytical chemistry equipment such as HPLC, GC, GCMS, LC, LCMS or related Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry, Spectroscopy or Pharmaceutical testing equipment  
  • You could be an aspiring Service Engineer who is currently working as Scientist, Chemist, Analyst, Equipment Technician, Lab Manager or similar where you have troubleshooted and maintained the above types of equipment from OEM’s such as Waters, Agilent, Perkin Elmer, Thermo Fisher, Shimadzu, SCIEX or similar company
  • Additional experience with equipment such as GC, GC-MS, LCMS, Spectroscopy, UV-VIS, FTIR would be beneficial 
  • Experience working in a GMP environment is ideal 
  • You will be educated in either a life science/chemistry or engineering subject 
  • Must hold a Full UK driving license & valid UK Passport

The role of the Onsite Service Engineer – Analytical Chemistry Equipment role:

  • Deliver expert and timely routine planned maintenance and breakdown support for my clients pharmaceutical testing equipment and associated products in line with my client’s service plans
  • Complete all installations of my client’s equipment in line with agreed processes
  • Identify new customers or new market segments that could become long term accounts
  • Complete and submit all paperwork to the admin team
  • Forge and maintains relationship with existing and new customers
  • Promote the company’s brand and range of services where applicable
  • Manage and be accountable for stock allocated to the service call
  • Provide remote support via phone and email to customers where requested
  • Maintain knowledge of the products and services

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Circa £30,000 - £43,000 (DOE)
  • Fully expensed company car (hire car provided during probation)
  • Tax free daily allowance (£10 when in the field for up to 8 hours)
  • Over time can will be paid in following fiscal year (January) or this can be taken of during the year as recover days, so no impact is made on statutory holidays
  • Pension -  6% employer contribution with a minimum 3% employee contribution after 3 months continuous employment.
  • 23 days holiday rising to 25 with continual service + 8 bank holidays
  • 3 x salary – death in service after 3 months continuous employment.

The requirements of the Trace Gas Analysis Field Service Engineer:

  • You could already be an experienced Field Service Engineer or Site Engineer with direct experience of servicing Trace Gas Analysis/SIFT-MS (Selected-ion flow-tube mass spectrometry)/ VOC (volatile organic compounds) equipment for companies such as TOFWERK, Honeywell, Johnson Matthey, Owlstone or related company
  • Alternatively you could also be working with the above equipment as a Researcher, Scientist or Chemist at either a University who specialise in SIFT-MS such as University of York, UWE Bristol, University of Cambridge, Keele University (or equivalent) or a company in industry such as Intertek, Givaudian or other
  • You will hold a BSc/HNC/HND (or higher) in a Chemistry or Engineering related field
  • As this role involves high levels of travel and regular over night stays you must be fully commited to this already
  • Candidates need, by nature, to be calm, clear thinking, practical individuals who enjoy and are good at problem-solving
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and a high standard of inter-personal abilities are essential attributes for the job
  • Willingness to travel on a National basis when required and to all areas of the territory to include Scotland
  • A full, preferably clean, UK driving licence is required


The responsibilities of the Trace Gas Analysis Field Service Engineer:

  • In this brand-new role, you will be the technical expert for my client’s SIFT-MS technology. Your focus will be to deliver equipment instruments, training and give after-sales technical support by telephone, email, and site visits across the UK
  • This includes repair, upgrades, planned maintenance and application support
  • Provide excellent technical support to our customers and to ensure that they remain customers for the long term
  • Keep up to date with the company's products & services and maintain an understanding of what the customer requires and relate this back to the appropriate person within the company to meet the customer's needs
  • Build and maintain harmonious working relationships with colleagues
  • Pass any new potential sales leads back to the internal and field-based sales team

The requirements of the Field Service Engineer:

  • You will have 2+ years of experience as a Field Service Engineer servicing either or a mix of LC & GC equipment for either an OEM such as Waters, Agilent or Shimadzu or a third-party service provider
  • Knowledge of PC/Workstation hardware and operating systems is desirable
  • Knowledge of analytical methods and method development is also desirable
  • Full and ideally clean UK driving licence with the ability to undertake field travel and stay away from home occasionally
  • Full right to work in the UK and a valid passport

The responsibilities of the Field Service Engineer:

  • Provide on-site support to my client’s customers for GC & LC scientific equipment in the following areas: breakdown, preventive maintenance, operational qualification & training
  • In-house workshop repairs and refurbish instruments for sale in accordance with quality requirements
  • Overnight stays every other week to their Runcorn workshop site, with field service travel to within around 2 hours from home location
  • Delivery of remote technical support via telephone, e-mail, or remote access software.
  • Delivery of remote and in-person training courses within area of expertise
  • Correct completion and timely submission of all service documentation
  • Ensure all company property entrusted is properly looked after and within required calibration
  • Correct completion and timely submission of monthly expenses in accordance with the company expenses policy
  • Compliance with all company processes and procedures
  • Compliance will all UK health & safety regulations
  • Manage own workload effectively, organise and prioritise and any project involvement to deadlines
  • Continually review working practices and proactively make recommendations to the manager to improve and increase efficiency of current operations
  • Build and maintain harmonious working relationships with colleagues and customers to achieve and exceed customer expectations
  • Keep abreast of new instrumentation and analytical techniques in the wider analytical industry

The Responsibilities:

  • Install and optimise Spectroscopy hardware/software products and configurations at customer sites.
  • Diagnose and resolve product performance problems.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs.
  • Calibrate customer equipment according to specifications.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction by advising customers on preventive maintenance and configurations, which may impact product performance.
  • Proactively responds to potential equipment issues to prevent unplanned interruption of customers' business.
  • Provide technical support to customers via phone and email as well as training.
  • Maintain records and input data into cloud based data systems

The Requirements:

  • A Bachelors within the science field e.g., chemistry, analytical chemistry biochemistry, biotechnology or similar (could be Engineering based also – HND/ NHC)
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining, calibrating troubleshooting and repairing Molecular Spectroscopy instruments (UV, FTIR, FL, Pol, CD)
  • Excellent inter-personal, self-motivational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrate organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks with different priorities
  • Ability to interact with customers and co-workers at a professional level and be able to work independently
