The requirements of the Senior Metrology Technician:

  • You will have 4+ years of experience as either an Onsite/Multisite Engineer or Field Service Engineer holding senior responsibility working for the likes of Transcat, Trescal, Agilent, Perkin Elmer, Waters, PCI, JA King, ESSCO, Tektronix, Integrated Service Solutions, Cal Tec, Accurate Calibration Service, Fox Valley Calibrations, East Coast Metrology, or very similar company
  • You will have been responsible for instrumentation and control, installing, calibrating, maintaining, and repairing metrology equipment
  • You will have previous experience of mentoring at least 1 other person
  • Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL) experience a big plus
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Associates Degree (AA/AS) in scientific field of study preferred or equivalent related work experience
  • Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding
  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, and/or supervisor. Ability to effectively present information to an internal department and/or large groups of employees
  • Basic knowledge of financial terms and principles. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages
  • Ability to understand and carry out general instructions in standard situations. Ability to solve problems in standard situations. Requires basic analytical skills
  • Intermediate skills with Desktop publishing, Microsoft Office Suite and Online Help
  • Familiarity with ISO 17025 and Laboratory Accreditation

The role of Senior Metrology Technician:

  • The purpose of this position is to calibrate and adjust equipment in lab or onsite in accordance with the customer and requirements; may assist in creating calibration procedures for new equipment
  • Calibrates inspections, measurements, and tests equipment in lab and onsite for accuracy in accordance with established calibration procedures; (e.g., Chemical, Electrical, Physical/Dimensional, Light/Color, Mass/Weight, Sound, Electrical, Pressure/Flow, Temperature, Force, Mass, Velocity, Torque & Volume, Time/Frequency equipment, systems, and controls)
  • As this is a Senior role you will have the responsibility of mentoring a junior member of the team and providing guidance too them
  • Performs calibrations for in lab and onsite locations following prescribed client procedures
  • Records data gathered during calibration within CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System)
  • Identifies and utilizes appropriate measurement procedures
  • Generates certificates of calibration and/or out of tolerance reports as required and in correct media appropriate to meet customer requirements
  • Maintains secondary or intrinsic and/or working calibration standards. Uses calibration software when required to expedite calibration times and to adjust calibration devices
  • Assists in maintaining laboratory ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Day-to-Day duties of the role:

  • The purpose of this position is to be responsible for the service delivery to customers and the preventive maintenance of equipment, managing the activities of the team members of the department in the service delivery to customers

  • To be considered for the role you must have experience working as a Metrology Manager, Metrology Team Leader, Calibration Manager, or equivalent title with direct line management/supervisory experience
  • You will have Associate's Degree (AA/AS), College Diploma in electronics or metrology, or equivalent related field of study or training required. Minimum of five years of related experience and/or training
  • Must have ISO17025 compliance experience
  • Knowledge of national and international metrology quality systems and standards
  • Proficient in electronic, physical dimensional, and thermo-dynamic calibrations

The Role:

  • You will be supporting the companies expansion of its Assay Biology department, as the Team Leader / Manager of a range of different Early Stage hit Identification, Drug Discovery right through to Pre-Clinical Screening projects (2-4 projects at any one time, managing approx 3-5 Scientists per project)
  • You will work at the interface between chemistry and biology
  • As the Team Leader you will expand the department to increase its capabilities and capacity, while in the short term require a degree of ‘hands on’ experience
  • Maintain appropriate awareness of safety procedures, attend required safety training and adhere to laboratory safety rules as defined by the host department, as well as ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with organisational standards, policies and procedures
  • You will contribute to several different projects, across the whole drug discovery spectrum from Hit Identification to Lead Optimisation
  • Play an active role as a member of the senior management leadership team and using your knowledge to help grow the departement and influecing R&D strategy

The Requirements:

  • To be considered for this role you must have 10 years previous direct line management experience (or supervisory indirect people management) as a Laboratory Manager/ Team Leader/ Supervisor in a Drug Discovery environment, Assay Biology, or early-phase hit identification bespoke assay development experience
  • Industrial experience (ideally more than 3 years), with a proven track record in delivering ADME/DMPK assay result delivery, where your conclusions have guided projects
  • Experience of ADME assay development
  • In vitro ADME and related assays e.g. hepatocyte stability, microsomal stability, plasma-protein binding, CYP inhibition etc
  • Experience with mass spectrometry (LC-MS, LC-MSMS)
  • Ability to generate bespoke assays for client-based projects, with support from experienced colleagues as required
  • Experience with plate-based assays
  • Handling of mammalian cells and bio-analysis
  • Present scientific results and ideas to colleagues and external clients or collaborators as required

The Role:

  • As a Medicinal Chemistry Group Leader, you will be responsible for working with several clients to agree and implement project strategy, providing leadership to multi-disciplinary project teams, and reporting and communicating to clients.
  • You will line-manage medicinal chemistry team leaders and medicinal chemists of varying experience levels. 
  • As a member of the chemistry leadership team you will use your knowledge to contribute to growing the department and influencing R&D strategy and acting as an ambassador for the company at external events.
  • Their multi-disciplinary team works in a highly collaborative manner with their clients - bringing together talent, creativity and expertise to convert ideas and discoveries into a broad range of new healthcare solutions. 
  • Each client project brings new scientific challenges and the scientists and team leaders must be versatile, and responsive to the evolving needs as each project progresses.

The Requirements:

  • To be considered for this role you must have previous direct line management experience (10 years+ experience) working as a Team Leader, and ideally some experience working as a Group Leader in the field of Early Phase Drug Discovery/ Development, and ideally you will have experience with Medicinal Chemistry or Bioanalysis
  • Based in a commutable distance to Little Chesterford, Saffron Walden
