Our client is a leading integrated drug discovery CRO that has been setting the highest standards in drug discovery, with a particular emphasis on small molecule research, since the early 2000’s.

They work in partnership with clients from a variety of sectors including academic, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and patient foundation organisations around the world with a focus on Assay Biology, Bespoke Assay Development, Small Molecules. Working across all disease areas you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience and skillset, by managing a range of bespoke assay development projects.

 The role of Principle Scientist - Cell Biologist:

  • Scientifically drive drug discovery projects with cutting edge cellular biology and pharmacology approaches to lead discovery and optimisation for client projects
  • Responsibility for developing and performing cell-based assays (e.g., Fluorescence, TR-FRET techniques, alphaLISA assays, phenotypic assays, proliferation assays, ELISA, western blots etc.)
  • Support routine laboratory operation and maintenance
  • Prepare and present oral and written reports on research activities to internal and external audiences
  • Managing client projects
  • Actively pursue own personal development
  • Maintain appropriate awareness of safety procedures, attend required safety training and adhere to laboratory safety rules as defined by the host department
  • Ensure that all duties are performed in accordance with organisational standards, policies, and procedures

The requirements of the Principle Scientist - Cell Biologist:

  • Prior to applying for this exciting role you will already have 5+ years of experience post education as an Associate/Principal Scientist, Cell Biologist or Assay Biologist
  • You will have gained this experience working for either a CRO, Pharmaceutical or Biotech company within a Drug Discovery/ Small Molecule environment
  • You will be educated in either a BSc, MSc or PhD in a scientific degree in the area of cell biology
  • You will have demonstratable experience of cell biology and expertise in a number of relevant cell assay screening techniques (e.g. viability assays, fluorescence microscopy, cell signalling assays, or biomarker studies)
  • The post also requires an individual with a sound knowledge and experience of cellular assay development and small molecule screening; however, additional training will be provided to broaden your skill set
  • The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, a quick learner, have good problem-solving skills, and be able to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Circa £35,600 - £53,500 DOE (Associate Principal Scientist level)
  • Base Salary Circa £42,275 - £60,000 DOE (Principal Scientist level)

The role of the Formulation Chemist:  

  • Clarifying formulation briefs directly with clients
  • Conducting feasibility studies/technical investigations into potential formulations
  • Sourcing raw materials from suppliers
  • Formulating innovative, naturally based products for both in house brands and private customers
  • Conducting stability and compatibility testing of approved formulations
  • Liaising between project manager, clients, and safety assessors on regulatory/claims issues
  • Generating INCIs
  • Creating PIF documentation
  • Creation and optimisation of manufacturing instructions
  • Manage the transfer from lab to manufacturing and advise on risk in scale up

The requirements of the Formulation Chemist:

  • You will already have a minimum 5 years’ experience as a Formulation Chemist, Formulation Scientist, NPD Chemist, Development Chemist, Cosmetic Chemist, or equivalent role
  • You will also have specific experience of formulating either Skincare and/or haircare products
  • Other formulation experience of cosmetics/personal care product categories will also be considered
  • Educated with a Diploma in Society of Cosmetic sciences or similar qualification (or qualified by experience)
  • Experience in process manufacturing
  • Knowledge of EU Cosmetics Directive
  • Able to communicate well with management, colleagues, and clients
  • Confident and self-driven
  • Ability to multitask with excellent organisational skills
  • Work in a fast-paced environment with precision and accuracy

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Circa: £30,000 – £36,000 (DOE)
  • Pension

The Role:

  • You will be supporting the companies expansion of its Assay Biology department, as the Team Leader / Manager of a range of different Early Stage hit Identification, Drug Discovery right through to Pre-Clinical Screening projects (2-4 projects at any one time, managing approx 3-5 Scientists per project)
  • You will work at the interface between chemistry and biology
  • As the Team Leader you will expand the department to increase its capabilities and capacity, while in the short term require a degree of ‘hands on’ experience
  • Maintain appropriate awareness of safety procedures, attend required safety training and adhere to laboratory safety rules as defined by the host department, as well as ensuring all duties are performed in accordance with organisational standards, policies and procedures
  • You will contribute to several different projects, across the whole drug discovery spectrum from Hit Identification to Lead Optimisation
  • Play an active role as a member of the senior management leadership team and using your knowledge to help grow the departement and influecing R&D strategy

The Requirements:

  • To be considered for this role you must have 10 years previous direct line management experience (or supervisory indirect people management) as a Laboratory Manager/ Team Leader/ Supervisor in a Drug Discovery environment, Assay Biology, or early-phase hit identification bespoke assay development experience
  • Industrial experience (ideally more than 3 years), with a proven track record in delivering ADME/DMPK assay result delivery, where your conclusions have guided projects
  • Experience of ADME assay development
  • In vitro ADME and related assays e.g. hepatocyte stability, microsomal stability, plasma-protein binding, CYP inhibition etc
  • Experience with mass spectrometry (LC-MS, LC-MSMS)
  • Ability to generate bespoke assays for client-based projects, with support from experienced colleagues as required
  • Experience with plate-based assays
  • Handling of mammalian cells and bio-analysis
  • Present scientific results and ideas to colleagues and external clients or collaborators as required
