Location: Basel region, Switzerland (Site based)  

This newly created Capital Projects HSE Manager role is the jewel in the crown for our client’s major top 5 blue chip pharmaceutical customer. This account is their most coveted customer, and it is no surprise that it is valued at more than 1 billion USD right now!

In this highly visible role, you will have access to the Chief Executive who is one of the 10,000 strong onsite team. You will take a lead role in collaborating with key stakeholders across Engineering, Project Management, Operations & Finance to implement highly effective HSE strategies for an exciting mix of Capital Projects.

The requirements of the Capital Projects HSE Manager:

  • A minimum of 7+ years in a similar Capital Projects HSE Manager role or similar title such as HSE Manager, HSE Leader, Resident HSE Engineer role with proven experience of implementing effective HSE strategies for Construction related Capital Projects in one or more of the following industries: Chemical Processing & Refining, Manufacturing, Food Processing, Pharmaceutical / Biotechnology, Construction, Heavy Industry or Facility Maintenance & Management
  • It is desirable that you hold a degree or related formal qualification in an Engineering discipline or HSE certification
  • Fluent/Native in German is a requirement & excellent English skills (written & spoken)
  • Ability to analyse complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully direct, coordinate, and strategically integrate multiple developmental, enhancement, and/or modification projects on a global level.
  • Knowledge of current developments and trends in QHSE best practices, project management, and related technology
  • Ability to effectively manage a large, diverse team of technical managerial/supervisory, professional, and support staff. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of PjM/QHSE organisation structure, workflow, and operating procedures
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local health and safety, and environmental regulations is required
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and effectively manage stakeholder interests in a fast-paced/dynamic organisation
  • Full Swiss/EU drivers license and valid passport with the ability to travel nationally & internationally when required

The role of the Capital Projects HSE Manager:

  • As the Capital Projects HSE Manager you will establish yourself as the subject matter expert for HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) initiatives in relation to the design and construction phases of refurbishment and new build projects for laboratory real estate
  • You will provide direct and timely counsel and information to management for the account, market area, or geographical region in matters pertaining to QHSE, compliance, trends, performance, and concerns
  • Ensure that project efforts, throughout the project management lifecycle are cohesive, consistent, and effective in supporting the global HSE and Project Management mission, goals, and strategic plan
  • Support HSE standards, policies, and operating objectives which are consistent with those of the client organisation to ensure efficient and effective implementation of major cross-discipline projects
  • Key to success in this exciting Capital Projects HSE Manager role will be utilise strong leadership, communication, and project management skills to develop the account including establishing robust controls aligned with existing HSE standards to ensure high quality project delivery
  • Participates in, advises, and oversees the implementation, development, and maintenance of individual project objectives and short- and long-range plans; tracks progress and audits programs to assist in the accomplishment of established project goals and objectives until project is complete
  • Works within project management workstreams and technology
  • Manages influentially with Project Managers, Leaders and HSE Professionals to manage risk and compliance throughout the project lifecycle
  • Monitors, reports, and aids in investigation of health and safety and environmental regulatory compliance within the project, report KPI status, or geographical/contractual area of responsibility
  • Reviews and oversees all work processes and conditions to ensure HSE (Health, Safety and Environmental) protective measures are optimized. Develops, recommend preventative and improvement measures to ensure the enhancement of QHSE programs
  • Manages the working relationships between project managers, QHSE professionals, leadership principal business and operational stakeholders, and high-level external constituencies

Salary & Benefits:

  • Base Salary Circa 150,000 CHF – 160,000 CHF (DOE)
  • 13,000 CHF Car Allowance
  • Circa 20% Bonus
