Territory: UK Wide (Circa 75% office based/25% field based)

Your location: Living in a commutable distance to the client’s headquarters in Cheshire, England

My client is a trusted and market leading supplier and servicer of equipment and consumables in the fields of LCMS, GCMS, HPLC/GC systems as well as nitrogen and hydrogen generators & liquid handling technology .

The requirements of the Service Manager:

  • You will already have a minimum of 10+ year’s relevant field-service experience or prior service/laboratory management experience
  • Ideally you will already be a Service Manager/Team Leader and have responsibility for managing a team of field-based service engineers
  • Relevant science or engineering qualification or significant accumulated field experience
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more of the following product areas: HPLC/UPLC, GC, GCMS, LC, LCMS or related mass spectrometry ionisation techniques and analyser types
  • Knowledge of general business management including P&L
  • Full, clean UK driving license
  • Valid passport with a minimum of 1-year remaining validity
  • Have the right to reside and work in the United Kingdom
  • Understanding and achievement of the Company performance objectives in line with budgetary responsibility
  • Numerate and computer literate
  • Application of ideas and techniques from analytic number theory
  • High level of interpersonal skills, displaying leadership with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, customers, and clients

The responsibilities of the Service Manager:

  • Reporting to the Service Director, the Service Manager role is responsible for implementing and managing the business strategy across service support operations in the field
  • Directly manage a UK-wide team of Field Service Engineers of varying skill & experience levels to develop and coach the team to achieve the company performance targets on an individual basis, through 1-2-1’s & team level through weekly/monthly meetings. In turn ensuring each Engineer has the development and training to carry out their duties effectively
  • To support the service department with functional expertise both internally & externally
  • Working in partnership with all business functions to add value to the role
  • The Service Manager will be responsible for driving customer focus through knowledge and best practice, whilst protecting service revenues through business knowledge
  • Ensure that both time and fiscal spend on behalf of the company is managed appropriately by ensuring it is both effective and efficient
  • Making management and leadership decisions that are both informed as well as ensuring they meet business requirements
  • Ensure that any spend by your staff associated with refurbishment, repair and maintenance of equipment is managed appropriately to support growth and profit within the business


  • Base Salary Circa £40,000 – £50,000 (DOE)
