The Requirements of the Product Manager

  • Life sciences degree such as a BSc, MSc or PhD in Biomedical Science, Genetics, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Immunology etc. would be highly beneficial
  • You would ideally hold some laboratory experience as well as your degree
  • Product management experience in the life science market is essential – You will have been working in areas such as nucleic extraction and/or bench-top instrumentation for genomics, high-throughput screening (HTS), molecular biology or a related field
  • You may even be working in the field of liquid-handling right now for the laboratory robotics instrumentation as a product manager working with a range of Automated Laboratory Solutions
  • Capable of learning and communicating features and benefits of highly innovative products to customers and conveying these to people not only at a high level of scientific knowledge, but to customers who maybe are not so technically experienced
  • Prior experience in sales would be useful as the Product Manager must have strong commercial acumen
  • Marketing experience/qualification such as CIM would be beneficial

The Responsibilities of the Product Manager:

  • The successful individual will be part of the strategic marketing team and responsible for the strategic direction of the products in the UK and distributor markets
  • The Product Manager must establish and maintain lines of communication at all appropriate levels for sales prospects, i.e. internal staff and other external contacts
  • You will identify and analyse specific customer needs and build product awareness in order to generate sales
  • Within the role, you would be responsible for a portfolio including: Nucleic Acid Extraction, Quantitation dyes, Cell-based assays, bench top systems including sample preparation solution and Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) systems
  • Building a marketing plan including conference selection and attendance
  • Executing strategy with cross-functional teams including sales managers and field support specialists
