Product Engineering Manager – Life Sciences
Base Salary Cira: £50,000 – £55,000 + Private Healthcare & Medical Cash Back Plan + Auto-enrolment Pension Scheme + Employee Share Purchase Scheme + 24 days holiday (plus public holidays) + Free On-site Car Parking
Location: Site/Office based in Dorking with approximately 10% travel

The Requirements:

  • You will already have 3+ year’s experience working as a Product Engineering Manager, New Product Introduction Manager, Senior Project Manager or very similar in the Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical or Medical Device sectors
  • Ideally this will be in the areas of Molecular Biology, Liquid Handling, PCR technology but is not essential and other scientific product areas will be considered
  • You will also have demonstratable people management experience gained from managing direct reports in a similar role
  • Past experience in Injection moulding processes & methodologies
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent within a Scientific – Biology or Chemistry, Engineering or Technology (BSc, MSc, HNC, HND) discipline
  • Project Management experience or qualifications, e.g. PMP / 6 Sigma
  • Strong drive and commitment to finish projects to a high standard
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and personal development
  • Must be based within a commutable distance to the company’s office in the Dorking area
  • Hold a full UK driving licence + ability to travel internationally

The Role:

  • The primary focus of the Product Engineering Manager is to manage and coordinate product development projects after they have been approved by appropriate processes
  • You will lead & manage a team of around 12 people that includes Tool Design, Product Development Managers & Onsite Tool Room Specialists allowing for the seamless introduction / change to existing products that are fit for manufacture
  • Responsible for the costing, specification and project management of injection moulded products
  • Conduct feasibility studies and tests new and modified designs
  • Prepare concept designs and develop design schemes
  • Assess cost & manufacturing feasibility studies on new product range
  • Investigate and implement improvements to existing product processes
  • Control design reviews, progress visits, FMEAs, and manage the validation functions
  • Develop creative resolutions to diverse and complex problems
  • Manage inter-organisational and external customer contacts
  • Ensuring all new products meet technical, price and production parameters
  • Provide regular updates on the technical status of the projects
  • Provide a single point of technical expertise for customer and internal stakeholders
  • Responsible for successfully defining, scoping and delivering on product development projects together with the Product Managers
  • Work with key stakeholders to ensure project plans are prepared and maintained for accurate reporting
  • Identify, assess and manage risks to the success of projects
  • Maintain and enhance good stakeholder relations through effective communication
  • Responsible for all people management aspects of team members including safety, recruitment, onboarding, training & development, and performance management
  • Work closely with direct reports with input from Human Resources to identify and develop talent to provide a succession pipeline for future sustainability of the business. Monitor and evaluate team member performance and capabilities and adjust training where needed.
