The Requirements of the Laboratory Assistant:
Previous laboratory work experience. Could be within any discpline Biological: Cell Culture, Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biomedical Science etc. or even a Chemistry discipline: Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemicay, Forensic Science etc.
Previous jobs could include: Laboratory Assistant, Laboratory Technicial, Analytical Technician, QC Technician, QA Technician, Assistsant Laboratory Supervisor etc.
Strong numerical skills as this role will involve a lot of data accumulation and analysis
Excellent Organisational skills coupled with the ability to communicate efficiently with both internal and external parties
Good computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes such as Excel, Word etc. And be willing and able to adapt to new computerised systems (E.g. Laboratory Information Management System LIMS)
Able to complete work to tight timelines
Good aseptic technique would be beneficial but not required
Cell culture experience is also beneficial, but once again not a must
The Position of Laboratory Assistant:
Main functions of this role will be based around: culture media, matrix plates, buffers, stocking consumables, alliquoting of reagents, running assays, follow health and safety guidelines
Enabling ground-breaking scientific research and procedures through your day to day work
Producing different cell culture media and feeder plates in an aseptic environment
Suggesting improvements of processes due to data gathered through the analysis and monitoring of your own and team members work
Looking for patterns, anomalies and performing calculations on your results you obtain
Updating in-house LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) computerized system
My client is responsible for developing and delivering complex and large scale cell biology projects to support scientific programs
They use state of the art large-scale genomic approaches to drive world-leading projects to uncover the basis of genetic and infectious disease
Their goal is to provide results that can be translated into diagnostics, treatments or therapies that reduce global health burdens.
The current portfolio of projects includes the generation of human induced pluripotent stem cells and organoid lines, the differentiation and characterisation of the cell lines and the running of large scale CRISPR screens in cancer cell lines
